This PDF pattern will allow you to make a Flight Vest for your 18 inch dolls.
Calling all flying aces…suit your 18-inch doll up with their very own flight vest! This steampunk inspired, military style vest features a removable front plastron with decorative “buttons” on the front. The plastron covers up the hook and eye closures on the front. This vest looks best made out of faux leather or faux suede. You can use buttons, brads or rivets to embellish the plastron. Instructions are given for each of these methods of embellishment.
- Less than ¼ yard main fabric* – microsuede or leather look OR
- Less than ¼ yard main fabric plus 6 inch x 6 inch piece of complementary fabric* for the front panel
- Less than ¼ yard lining fabric such as cotton, broadcloth or blends
- 1 inch x 4 inches of fusible interfacing
- 10 x ⅛ – ⅜ inch wide buttons, brads or rivets**
- 3 sets of hook and eyes
- 4 sets of sew-in snaps
- Matching thread
- Zipper foot
- Awl and/or punch
- Chalk or other removable marking pen
*You can choose to make your vest with only one main fabric or make your Front panel out of a different, complementary fabric.
**The wider the embellishment you choose, the trickier it will be to topstitch the Front Panel.
