Description
This PDF pattern will allow you to make an Aviator Hat for your A Girl for All Time® dolls.
Popular in the early twentieth century, these hats were designed to keep pilots warm in open cockpit airplanes. They are were usually made of leather and had ear flaps and a chin strap to keep them in place.
Supplies:
Unlined Version
- ¼ yard of faux shearling
- 5 inch by ⅜ inch piece of leather or vinyl
- ⅜ inch centre bar pin buckle (see photo)
- Sharp/universal needle
- Leather or vinyl needle
- Matching thread
- Awl, punch or leather punch
- Chalk or other removable marking pen
Lined Version
- Less than ¼ yard of faux leather fabric with a soft hand
- Less than ¼ yard of lining fabric*
- 5 ⅛ inch by ⅜ inch piece of leather or vinyl
- ½n inch centre bar pin buckle (see photo)
- Sharp/universal needle
- Leather or vinyl needle
- Matching thread
- Awl, punch or leather punch
- Chalk or other removable marking pen
- Turning tool. I use the blunt end of a bamboo skewer to push out tiny corners.
*If your faux leather fabric is thin, use a medium weight lining such as wool or fleece. If your faux leather is medium weight, use a thinner cotton/polycotton lining.
